Espoo among Top7 intelligent communities as the only city from Europe

Espoo has been named as one of the Top7 cities in the international Intelligent Communities Awards 2018. Other finalists include cities from Canada, Australia and Taiwan. The City of Oulu is the only other city in Finland that has reached Top7, in 2012 and 2013.

The City of Espoo and Fortum introduce solutions for an emission-free city

The City of Espoo and Fortum are building an emission-free city together. As a result, carbon-dioxide emissions have already decreased by 15% from 2014. The cooperation scheme has been outlined as a distinct development path that will make the district heat produced and utilised in Espoo carbon neutral in the 2020s.

New high-end hotel announced for Matinkylä, Espoo

A new high-end, 192-room hotel, along with residential properties and two apartment hotels, are set to be built to the west of the Matinkylä Metro Center and the Iso Omena shopping centre extension in Espoo. The hotel’s ground floor will be occupied by a restaurant, which will also feature a courtyard dining area for the summer season.

West Metro – creating new urban communities

Rapid development is taking place in the urban areas surrounding Espoo’s new west Metro stations. New homes, commercial properties and facilities for public service providers are being created, while existing traffic infrastructure is undergoing an upgrade and service provision for residents is being enhanced.

Espoo remains the most sustainable city in Europe

In a study conducted last year, Espoo was found to be the most economically, socioculturally and ecologically sustainable city in Europe. According to a recent follow-up study, Espoo has maintained its position as the top city in Europe in terms of sustainability.
