Kivenlahti – Cleantech Garden
Kivenlahti is a rapidly growing and developing area with a future metro connection. This seaside suburb located in West Espoo with about 8,000 inhabitants is expected to grow to 25,000 by 2050.
Kivenlahti has a boat harbour, library, shops, restaurants and two schools. Kivenlahti developments are served by good public transport facilities (including the metro by 2023). Kivenlahti has become a significant testbed for bio- and circular economy solutions – Cleantech Garden. For investors it is a fine place to locate commercial and business activities. The Kiviruukki industrial area located there is being remodelled, and will offer excellent opportunities for residential and especially for business development in Kivenlahti in the coming years. The area is being developed in the spirit of the Cleantech Garden as a hub for research premises.
Cleantech Garden is all about:
• Textile fibres from wood-based materials such as cellulose
• Recovery of nutrients and rare metals from waste streams
• Biochemicals, biofuels and biomaterials from waste
• Business ecosystems with value networks: collaboration platforms
• New circular economy business models
• Techno-economic feasibility studies
Cleantech Garden aims to be the leading cleantech innovation hotspot for the sustainable bio- and circular economy in Finland and globally. The mission is to create an open, dynamic, multi-actor ecosystem for business, research and education around VTT’s Bioruukki Pilot Centre site. Cleantech Garden is a testbed, where companies and research organisations can test their production methods using VTT's equipment and processes. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is one of the leading research and technology organisations in Europe.
