Finnoo is being built according to highly sustainable development principles, which is evident in zoning solutions, energy solutions and material selection. Residential developments will focus on four areas: the urban metro centre, the all-green Djupsundsbäcken, the seaside Finnoo Marina and the northern Finnoonkartano. Different sections of Finnoo are connected with lush parks. Even a wet-land nature sanctuary will be formed to Finnoo.
The plan is to make the whole of Finnoo an energy-efficient and low-carbon district. As for Finnoo’s targets for sustainability, many issues are related to the production and use of energy. Due to its location and good connections, thousands will find their homes or workplaces in Finnoo in the future.
The development includes more than 200 properties for residential, commercial and office projects. Total development of more than 1 million m² with a real estate value of €4.5 billion provides investors with many business opportunities in Finnoo.
Most important development projects
The first area to be developed in Finnoo is Djupsundsbäcken, a green residential building project area, with building potential of about 130,000 m² will start in 2018 and will be largely complete by 2025.
Finnoo Metro Station
The construction of the high-rise Metro centre area with a shopping centre and new metro station will begin in 2019 and last until 2032. The total development is 250,000 m². The area will have innovative architectural solutions and outstanding connections, together with panoramic sea and city views.

The western and northern areas of Finnoo will have residential buildings for urban families with or without children. The total residential development is 120,000 m² and construction will take place between 2019 and 2024.
The seashore apartment buildings of Finnoo Marina will have a view over the harbour and archipelago. A beautiful park and seaside restaurants will add to the area’s attractiveness. The small boat harbour of Finnoo will be Espoo’s largest and there will be boat connections to islands located around the Finnoo coastline. The total development is 180,000 m² and construction will take place between 2020 and 2030.
Energy-efficient and low-carbon district
Targets for the entire energy system in Finnoo are energy efficiency maximisation and CO2 emission minimisation as well as peak shaving and a high share of renewable, recycled or reused energy.
There will be district heating and district cooling networks in the Finnoo area. Every building will be able to buy and sell energy via open networks. During the summer, extra heat from the buildings’ cooling systems will be returned to the closed-circuit district cooling system. The energy flow of each individual building will be publicly monitored and compared throughout the Finnoo area to promote best energy practices. Energy consumption peaks will be reduced by energy storage system requirements.
Houses will use both solar and geothermal energy. One of the first new energy innovations that will be implemented is that, in some streets, geothermal energy collecting pipes will be placed within the street structure.
