The western part of the centre of Tapiola to form a prestigious architectural entity

Dwellings for about 400 people and a total of 5,200 sqm of commercial and office spaces will be designed and constructed in the western part of the centre of Tapiola. This will add a new, prestigious entity to the area. The City Board of Espoo will decide on the overall contract with YIT Finland Ltd at its meeting on 15 March 2021. The construction of new dwellings is set to begin this spring.

COVID-19 has not slowed down housing construction in Espoo

The number of dwellings started reached a new record in Espoo in 2020 despite the coronavirus pandemic. The construction of 6,159 dwellings was started, which was a significant increase on the amount in 2019 (4,645 dwellings).


Tapiola sports park to become a verdant park for the residents

HKL, HSL, Länsimetro Oy and the City of Espoo have launched a project to study how the capacity could be increased in the future.


Tapiola swimming hall will be renovated to work even better

Tapiola swimming hall will be renovated in a manner that preserves its architectural values and overall form. The hall’s dressing rooms and shower facilities will become more functional, and all damaged structures will be renewed. The goal is to start the renovations in 2022 and have the hall back in use by 2024.

Agreement reached on the construction of City Rail Link

The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, the City of Espoo, and the City of Kauniainen will make an agreement on the construction of Espoo’s City Rail Link. The sales of the new apartment building plots in Finnoo is progressing. The proposed buyer is a consortium formed by Suomen Puukerrostalot Oy, Lindbäcks Group Ab and Kallioinen Yhtiöt. The purchase price is 4.8 million euros.


A unique wooden residential building constructed in Tapiola

The first wooden office building in Keilaniemi

Planning is currently underway on the construction of a large wooden office building at the south end of the Ring Road I tunnel in Keilaniemi. The seaside office building to be constructed next to the metro station and the terminus of the upcoming Jokeri Light Rail line will be the first wooden building in Keilaniemi.

The development of the Espoon keskus area is advancing. The landscape around the old City Hall will change, even though the final decisions about the building are still in progress. The demolition of the Virastotalo 2 building will start in early October and end in May 2021.


City of Espoo’s properties switching over to renewable district heating

The nearly 300 properties administered by the City of Espoo Premises Department are switching over to district heating produced using renewable energy sources as part of the Carbon Neutral Espoo 2030 objective. The majority of the affected properties consist of schools and day care centres.
